In 2020, Peruvian paprika exports saw a growth of 17% in volume and 3% in value, reaching 26 thousand tons valued at US $ 67 million. Mexico and the United States were the leading buyers, with Spain importing the highest volume despite being the third largest buyer in value. Peruvian paprika had a 21% share in the Spanish market, despite not meeting the technical standards for safety. However, it fetched higher prices than paprika from other countries. Recently, Peru's National Institute of Quality issued a technical standard to ensure quality and minimize contamination risks, which is expected to make the product more competitive in the international market.
