Prices for potatoes in Ukraine will go up: when to expect the increase

Prices for potatoes in Ukraine are currently stable. The situation may change with the arrival of cold weather.

Olga Samoylichenko, the executive director of the Association of Potato Producers, commented to "Kommersant Ukrainian" that Ukrainian potatoes may catch up in price with imported ones.

"As long as the cold doesn't set in, the price will remain as it is now. And then, when it gets cold, there will likely be a shortage, and we will start to match the price of imported potatoes," the expert explained.

However, she does not expect a significant increase in the price of the vegetable. According to her, in Ukraine a kilogram of potatoes costs about 10 hryvnias, while in Poland it costs about 6 hryvnias, which so far is holding back the growth of prices in the Ukrainian market.

Due to the May frosts, which destroyed 10% of the orchards, Ukrainian farmers are harvesting fewer fruits, which has increased the cost of producing pears by 30% compared to last year. Thus, this fruit will significantly increase in price.

In addition, prices for bread in Ukraine may rise this autumn and winter, although it is not worth expecting a significant increase.
