Inhambane Province, a major producer of cashew nuts in Mozambique, has sold approximately 70 thousand tons of nuts over the past four years, primarily for domestic consumption. Despite its large production, the province lacks a processing industry, with small processors struggling to certify nuts from the region. They also face challenges in selling nuts abroad due to lower prices. Local districts have recommended incentives to attract investment for industrial processing of the oilseed. Inhambane has planted three million cashew tree seedlings in the last five years, leading to an increase in production. These discussions were conducted during the Provincial Cashew Forum, which brought together stakeholders to develop strategies for enhancing cashew nut production.
