The Agrarian Cooperative of Multiple Services South East (COOPSSUR East) in Madre de Dios, Peru, has exported 25 tons of fine aroma cocoa beans of varieties VRAE 99 and VRAE 15 to Belgium, with assistance from Agromercado, a ministry attached to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation. The cocoa was standardized and shipped by Amazonas Trading Peru S.A.C. and comes from partners in the districts of Inambari, Tambopata, and Las Piedras, dedicated to conventional and organic cocoa and cupuacu cultivation. Agromercado has provided technical and commercial support to these partners since 2019 and aided in their Fair Trade certification process. This export is a result of their participation in the Cocoa Business Roundtable in 2021, with cocoa grown in 16 regions of Peru, employing over 100,000 producers.
