In the Province of Arauco, a collaborative effort involving potato producers and officials from local agricultural organizations has initiated harvesting trials of 12 certified potato seed varieties in Contulmo, Los Álamos, and Arauco. This initiative, spearheaded by the Biobío Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), aims to acquaint farmers with new potato varieties and assess their adaptability to the region's conditions. The project underscores the significance of utilizing certified seeds and creating potato seedbeds to ensure the production of high-quality, disease-free potatoes. Given the region's status as free from quarantine potato diseases, it is positioned as an ideal location for generating genetic material for potatoes, potentially increasing yields and economic benefits for local producers.
