Prominent coffee-focused nonprofits and trade organizations, including Fairtrade International, the Global Coffee Platform, and the European Coffee Federation, have called on European leaders to address concerns regarding the new EU deforestation-free supply chain law (EUDR) set to take effect on Dec. 30. They warn that the law may unintentionally harm smallholder coffee farmers who could struggle with compliance and reporting requirements. The groups urge immediate intervention to prevent these negative impacts and to ensure a fair and sustainable market for all producers.
