The Mexican government has published the Octopus Fishery Management Plan for the East Coast of Baja California, a significant step towards sustainability of the fishery and a model for fishery management in the region. The plan promotes responsible use of the brown and green octopus, encourages conservation and sustainable use, and reduces environmental impacts. Over 80% of octopus production in Baja California is from protected natural areas, providing a significant portion of the economic income for local communities. The National Commission for Fisheries and Aquaculture (Conapesca) will oversee the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the plan.
