The Minister of Agriculture of Catalonia, Òscar Ordeig, announced the results of an investigation conducted by an Audit Committee within the scope of an independent audit of the Biocontainment Installation of Level 3 (NCB3) of IRTA-CReSA, located on the UAB campus in Bellaterra. The audit took place on December 9 and 10, 2025 and was led by a team of experts composed of Gorka Aduriz, Massimo Palmarini, Gonzalo Pascual, and Laura Pérez, who acted as the scientific coordinator. During the process, the audit team interviewed key staff of the center, including those responsible for biocontainment, infrastructure, management, and research, and reviewed both the documentation and the operational procedures of the facility. The results of the audit are positive and conclude that the IRTA-CReSA facilities are suitable for biosafety level 3 and, therefore, appropriate for the safe work with the African swine fever (ASF) virus.
