Ukraine has seen a surge in sunflower purchase prices due to a scarcity of offers and active export of seeds, despite challenges in exports and oil processing. In October, Ukraine increased its sunflower meal exports by 10% to 390,000 tons, but exports have since slowed down. Purchase prices for sunflower in Ukraine have risen by 500 UAH/t to 16-16.5 thousand UAH/t. The European Commission reported a 13,000-ton increase in EU farmers' sunflower imports to 77,000 tons, with 1.16 million tons imported in 2022/23, a 6.7-fold increase from the same period last year. Ukraine harvested only 9.8 million tons of sunflower this year, leading to a raw material shortage in the second half of the season. The global sunflower oil market is also supported by the delay in sunflower harvesting in the Russian Federation.
