The Qatar Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) is planning to establish plant factories as part of a food security strategy to produce leafy vegetables year-round and increase self-sufficiency in fresh food production. The ministry is also encouraging private sector investment in the agricultural sector. The plant factories will use artificial control of light, temperature, moisture, and carbon dioxide concentrations for constant vegetable production. The MME's second national strategic plan of food security also aims to increase production of favorite vegetables like zucchini, tomato, eggplant, and cucumber.
