Ramadan 2023: Date reserves will meet local market demand in Morocco

Morocco imported a quantity of 80,000 tons of dates in 2022. The supply of dates for the month of Ramadan will be sufficient with around 200,000 tonnes available. Prices will increase slightly for noble varieties, but will remain stable for classic varieties. For the current year, ANDZOA estimates that date production will be better thanks to the rainfall and snow that have watered the palm groves. In 2022, date production in Morocco has decreased by 20%. However, the National Agency for the Development of Oasis and Argan Zones (ANDZOA) has indicated that this drop will have no impact on market availability. Indeed, the Kingdom imports a large quantity of dates each year to meet local demand, Media24 reported. On the production side, Morocco produced a record quantity of dates in 2021 (150,000 T) thanks to the ANDZOA program.
