Real import substitution has been announced in Ukraine: but for now it will affect only fish

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy is starting a policy of import substitution in the food sector and, together with the Cabinet of Ministers, is starting to form a road map for the reorientation of state procurement. This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval. According to him, in the structure of state procurement, a large part is imported products. State structures mostly supply fish from abroad. The minister is convinced that Ukrainian fish should be in the diet of those who buy food with state funds. Koval emphasized that in 2023, the state purchased imported fish worth UAH 40 billion. We are talking about hake and pangasius. In his opinion, substitution will positively affect the country's balance of payments, create additional demand for fish grown in Ukraine and give impetus to the development of the industry.
