The company "Syngenta" and the insurance company "INGO" have summed up the season of the index insurance "MeteoZakhist" with record payout figures. The size of the compensations in the 2025 season exceeded the record figures of the previous season with an average payout of $10/ha, which constitutes 15% of the average investment size for purchasing the "Syngenta" technology. However, in the most affected regions, such as Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad oblasts, every tenth participant received compensation of $33+/ha.
The program covered 739 farmers on an area of almost 1 million hectares – this is twice the coverage compared to last year, and 625 of the 739 participants in the program (85% of the farmers) received compensation for weather risks.
The main reason for the payouts was drought and abnormal heat, which affected the traditionally arid southeastern regions and central Ukraine. Drought caused 59% of all compensations, especially during critical periods of flowering and grain filling. The most affected were late crops – corn and sunflower, among which 74%.
