Netherlands: Reference Fontane scores well in trial French fries and crisp varieties

Inagro, PCA and Pibo Campus conduct the variety trials every year as part of the Potato Agricultural Center Programme. They planted twelve new chip varieties in Kortrijk, Wannegem-Lede and Tongeren, with five more chip varieties added at the first two locations. The three test fields were planted between April 24 and May 7. Due to the regional distribution of the trial fields, there are always differences in growing conditions, even within the small part of Flanders. The 2021 growing season was marked by a cold, slow start. This was followed by a changeable summer and a beautiful month of September. Varying Yields Yields varied between the test sites from 33 tons per hectare (Tongeren) to 55 tons per hectare (Kortrijk) for the reference Fontane.
