The Department of Intellectual Property in Thailand is making progress in registering geographic indications (GI) for agricultural products to boost their market value and support the local economy. Deputy Minister of Commerce, Mr. Weerasak Wangsupakitkosol, announced the registration of two new GI products: Som Mae Sin, a unique variety of tangerine orange from Sukhothai Province, and jasmine rice grown in volcanic soil from Buriram. With a total of 18 Thai GI products already registered and 21 pending, this initiative aims to enhance the quality, marketing, and international recognition of these products, generating significant income for the community.
