The Turkish government has reduced tariffs on imported almonds from 1 January 2018 from 43% to 15%; Turkey then imposed retaliatory tariffs of 20% on US almonds after the US announced Section 232 tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. In 2019, Turkey reduced the return tariff by 10%, and it remains so today. The current tariff for American almonds in Turkey is 25%. The United States is the main supplier of almonds to Turkey, which annually imports an average of $160 million worth of almonds (70% core and 30% inshell almonds).
