[Korean Farmers' News Agency, Reporter Kang Jae-nam] The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Technology Institute (Director Ko Sang-hwan) announced that it has embarked on research into artificial cultivation technology utilizing Jeju native mushrooms to improve the cultivation structure centered on king oyster mushrooms in the Jeju region and to diversify sources of income for farmers. According to the Provincial Agricultural Technology Institute, the mushroom cultivation area in the Jeju region spans 103 hectares and involves 109 farms, with over 95% of the total cultivating king oyster mushrooms. Currently, about 900 species of mushrooms are native to Jeju, with approximately 40 to 90 of these species being edible.
