Retail lamb prices in Bulgaria have increased by 8.4% annually, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, with the average price per kilogram at BGN 25.27. The purchase price of live lambs, however, remained virtually the same as last year at BGN 11.11/kg. Wholesale lamb prices saw a 9.2% increase to BGN 25.93/kg. The weekly purchase price of live lambs remained unchanged, but increased by 0.1% for the month. The difference in price between Bulgarian and EU classified light lamb meat is significant, exceeding 1,040 euros per 100 kg in Bulgaria. Spain, Romania, and Greece are the leading European producers of sheep meat in 2023, with Spain raising 25% of the European sheep flocks. The main sheep meat imports in Bulgaria are from North Macedonia and Greece.
