Ecuador's agricultural sector, particularly in Guayas, has been severely hit by heavy rains, with crops suffering total or partial losses. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), the damage includes 5,369 hectares completely lost and 1,704 hectares partially lost, resulting in an estimated economic loss of $500 million. The most affected crops are rice, grass, cocoa, plantain, hard corn, and banana. Farmers are seeking government support and lower interest rates on loans, while also advocating for credit restructuring and technification programs. In the Sierra region, there is an oversupply of milk, leading to low farm gate prices. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock is being called upon to address these issues.
