In 2024, Indonesia experienced a substantial rise in rice imports, with volumes increasing by 202.88% and values by 284.61% compared to the previous year. The primary sources of these imports were Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, and India. This increase aligns with President Joko Widodo's decision to extend rice assistance to Beneficiary Families until December 2024, in response to escalating global food prices. Despite the surge in imports, rice prices remain high, especially in areas that do not produce rice, leading to ongoing government intervention and monitoring.
