Hydraulic lifts, high-altitude rescue equipment, and respiratory protection gear – these were used by firefighters during the recent operations to extinguish fires in grain dryers containing corn. Last Thursday (December 11) early in the morning, a report of a grain dryer fire in the town of Zduny was received at the Command Post of the County Fire Brigade in Krotoszyn (Greater Poland Voivodeship). At the time, the process of drying corn was taking place in the dryer. "Upon arrival at the scene, the person leading the rescue operation determined through reconnaissance that the corn stored in the dryer was on fire. Nearby the affected device, there were three storage silos filled with grain, hence there was a real risk of the fire spreading. The owner of the facility had disconnected the electrical and gas supply used in the drying process.
