The Rostov region in Russia is set to increase the use of domestic seeds in sunflower sowing next year, replacing over 30% of imported seeds. The regional Ministry of Agriculture has reported a successful doubling and quadrupling of seed plots for corn and sunflower, respectively, in 2022. The share of regional corn and sunflower seeds in sowing for next year is expected to be 14% and 31% respectively. The Don region has seen a 9% increase in agricultural exports, amounting to $6.3 billion, compared to the previous year. Despite these positive developments, the region faces challenges such as broken logistics links and supply chain difficulties, which affect the profitability of agricultural production.
