The Duas Safras Program, a joint initiative by the Federation of Agriculture of Rio Grande do Sul (Farsul) and other partners, aims to boost the state's agricultural production by 40%, which is expected to contribute around 7% to the State's GDP or R$ 31.9 billion. The program encourages the cultivation of wheat, triticale, barley, rye, canola, and oats in winter, an alternative to corn for poultry and swine feed. Currently, the winter crop only accounts for 9% of the summer crop's size, and the scarcity of corn is limiting the expansion of herds and slaughter. The program also emphasizes the need to increase corn production through irrigation in the southern half of the state. An agreement is being made to address the obstacles preventing the increase of irrigation in the State, and the program has received full support from the governor.
