The Russian Federation is on track to significantly boost its pea production and exports, with a record-breaking export forecast of at least 2.7 million tons in the 2023/2024 agricultural year, potentially rising to 2.8 million tons the following year. The cultivation area for peas has expanded from 2 million hectares in 2023 to 2.2 million hectares, primarily in the Stavropol and Krasnodar territories and the Rostov region. Despite the increase in production, Russia faces a shortage of domestic processing facilities for pea protein, leading to over half of the peas being exported, mainly to China and India. The country harvested 4.7 million tons of peas in the 2023/2024 agricultural year, up from 3.6 million tons the previous year, with a projection of 4.85 million tons for the 2024/2025 agricultural year.
