Russia may significantly reduce its export of confectionery products to the EU due to new EU requirements for the import of composite products. The new regulations, effective from April 21, 2021, expand the list of composite products subject to additional veterinary control, including those with less than 50% animal components. These changes could negatively impact Russian exports of confectionery products, which contain animal origin raw materials like dairy, egg products, and honey. The small number of Russian enterprises certified by the European Commission for these exports and the lack of permission for beef, pork, and lamb imports from Russia to the EU further exacerbate the situation. Meanwhile, imports of multi-component products from the EU have seen a significant decrease, from over 840 thousand tons in 2020 to 215 thousand tons in 2021.
