Russia is set to pass a new law, signed by President Vladimir Putin, which will require the destruction of agricultural plant seeds if they are found to contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The law will apply to both the import and export of agricultural crops. The law also establishes a procedure for checking seeds for GMOs and gives the right to Rosselkhoznadzor, the federal service for supervising the agricultural sector, to conduct audits of foreign laboratories for testing seeds of agricultural plants, except in the case of countries in the EAEU.
