In 2023, Russian fishermen caught 5.3 million tons of fish, marking an 8.7% increase from the previous year. The catch included over 1.9 million tons of pollack, 570,000 tons of bream, and 110,000 tons of squid, but there were also declines in the production of eastern salmon, cod in the Barents Sea, and haddock and plaice due to sanction restrictions and other issues. Fish prices in Russia increased by 13% from January to September. Despite these challenges, fish consumption in Russia is estimated to be around 3.3 million tons for 2025, which is similar to last year's figures, and the per capita consumption is projected to be about 22.7 kilograms per year.
