The Russian Federal Fisheries Agency has reported a notable increase in pollock catch in the Far East, with a 6% rise year-on-year, reaching 1 million tons. This growth is echoed by the Russian Pollock Fishing Association, which observed a 3.2% increase in its members' catch. Overall, Russia's fishery catch has grown by 2% year-on-year as of April 10, totaling 1.6 million tons, with the Far East's contribution marking a 12% increase to 1.32 million tons. Despite these positive trends, local pollock prices have dropped due to the surge in production. In an effort to capitalize on market opportunities, Russia is aiming to increase its surimi production by 40% from the current 30,000 tons, with an anticipated rise to 41,000 tons in 2024, driven by growing interest from the Chinese market.
