Young researchers from the Center for Genomic Selection and Biotechnology of Belgorod State Agricultural University, in collaboration with specialists from the All-Russian Research Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, have achieved a real breakthrough in speed breeding—a technology for accelerated plant growth. In the laboratories of "KlimBioTech" they created and confirmed a protocol that allows for up to six generations of soybeans per year. For comparison: traditional methods take years. This result is a record for soybeans and opens up new horizons for breeding. What is speed breeding? It is a technique in which plants develop in artificially created conditions with optimal light, temperature, and humidity. As a result, the vegetation processes are accelerated, and researchers can obtain more generations of plants in a short period of time. This is critically important for the development of new varieties—adapted to climate change, resistant to diseases, and possessing ...
