The number of saury and mackerel in the Kuril waters has been declining, while sardine stocks are increasing. The recommended catch for pelagic fish species in the Russian exclusive economic zone for 2023 is 485 thousand tons of sardine, 250 thousand tons of mackerel, and 90 thousand tons of saury. However, a Sakhalin company plans to start fishing in mid-August without a specific date, and Russian enterprises that previously worked on saury are buying Taiwanese raw materials, which may lead to a disappearance of canned saury from Russian shelves due to the ban on imports from unfriendly countries.
