In 2023, Russia emerged as a significant exporter of fishmeal to China and South Korea, accounting for over 90% of its total exports. The export volume to these countries reached 72,000 tons, with a value of US$270 million, marking an 11% increase from the previous year. Specifically, exports to South Korea and China increased by 14% and 27% to US$110 million and US$109 million, respectively. On a global scale, fishmeal production was estimated at around 5 million tons, with Peru, Chile, and India being the leading producers, contributing 30%, 8%, and 7% respectively. China is a key consumer of fishmeal, representing one-third of the global demand.
