Rwanda and the Central African Republic (CAR) have signed a memorandum of understanding on agriculture cooperation, covering areas such as research, land use, seed development, crop and environmental protection, and agribusiness. CAR has provided 70,500 hectares to Rwanda for use, and the two countries are assessing potential value chains in commodities like groundnuts, wheat, cotton, palm oil, corn, rice, sugarcane, onion, and tomato. The CAR also aims to develop its poultry and cattle industries, with a goal of producing 2 billion chickens and 10 million heads of cattle within 10 years. A joint technical team will be formed to implement the cooperation MoU, and CAR is planning to establish an agriculture bank with an investment of over $25 billion over 20 years.
