The article highlights the agricultural development initiatives by the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality, led by Mehmet Hilmi Güler, aimed at making Ordu a self-sufficient city and generating additional income for local producers. The initiative has seen the cultivation of the salep plant, which is used in various food and medicinal products, starting with two farmers in 2019 and expanding to over 30 by 2020, with plans to add 30 more in 2021. This project is part of a larger strategy to diversify Ordu's agricultural production beyond hazelnuts, as the region has limited open land. The harvested salep will be purchased from the producers and sold through the ORTAR company. Local producers are optimistic about the potential of these initiatives to provide alternative sources of income.
