Samcheok City in Gangwon, South Korea, is pursuing asparagus as a new income crop for farmers, developing a 'softening cultivation shading device' and technology for simple production of white asparagus. The city plans to expand the asparagus cultivation area from 4㏊ to 8㏊ by 2022, investing 500 million won, and will supply 40,000 seeds of high-quality seedlings to improve quality and reduce production costs. The city also aims to improve the competitiveness of Samcheok asparagus by promoting temperature reduction technology and mechanization of sorting work in facilities, and will establish new markets to improve farmers' stable income.
