San Martín became the first region in Peru to recognize more than 533,000 hectares of native communities and private lands as Forest Management Units (UOF), thereby consolidating its leadership in the sustainable management of forest resources. This important advancement was made possible with the technical support of the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) and its Sustainable Productive Forests Program (BPS). Forest Management Units (UOF) are areas of forest that the State officially recognizes for responsible use. In this case, it serves the communities and the owners of the lands to use the forest resources such as timber, fruits, or plants, in a planned and orderly manner.
