Brazil: São Paulo intensifies actions to prevent Avian Influenza on farms

Joint actions between Union and State bodies have already begun to be adopted in São Paulo to strengthen the prevention of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. Brazil has no record of cases of the disease, also called avian flu. Recently, outbreaks in wild and domestic birds have been confirmed in nearby countries, such as Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile and Ecuador. In Peru and Argentina, the disease has been reported in commercial poultry farms. The actions were defined in a meeting in February between the State Superintendence of Agriculture and Livestock (SFA-SP) and the Coordination of Agricultural Defense (CDA), of the State Government's Secretary of Agriculture and Supply.
