The European Commission has recently updated the EU's regionalisation plan, officially declaring Sardinia and Sweden as free from African swine fever (ASF). This milestone marks the end of a significant outbreak in Sardinia that began in 1978, credited to a dedicated eradication and control strategy involving enhanced surveillance, biosecurity measures, and expert training. In Sweden, the rapid response to detect and contain ASF, inspired by EUVET's recommendations, has resulted in the country's 'ASF-free' status, just a year after the disease's initial detection. No new cases have been reported in either region, highlighting the effectiveness of the implemented measures.
