Saudi Arabia has launched the National Grain Supply Company (SABIL), a new entity aimed at managing the country's grain operations and strategic reserves. Owned by the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC), under the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, SABIL will oversee 14 grain silos across the kingdom, with a combined capacity of over 2.7 million tonnes. Initially, the company will focus on wheat, with the General Authority for Food Safety continuing to oversee procurement while SABIL takes charge of wheat handling from ports to mills, and grain elevator management. This move is part of Saudi Arabia's efforts to strengthen its food supply chain, especially considering its reliance on imported wheat and its goal to improve mass production. Additionally, SABIL's infrastructure will offer storage and logistics solutions to the private sector, enhancing the country's supply chain capabilities.
