The Secretary of Agriculture of Santa Catarina, Altair Silva, has allocated R$ 10 million to encourage rural producers to plant at least 20,000 hectares of wheat, triticale, oats, and rye as part of the Terra Boa Program. This initiative aims to support poultry and swine producers by reducing dependence on corn for feed and silage production. Each producer will receive a subsidy of R$ 300.00 per hectare, capped at 10 hectares, for successfully planting winter cereals. Producers are encouraged to reach out to agricultural cooperatives for seed and input supply, with repayment due at harvest. This move is a response to the anticipated decrease in corn production in Santa Catarina due to drought, which is expected to result in significant imports of the grain.
