The Santa Catarina government has initiated the Leite Bom SC Program, dedicating R$300 million over three years to enhance the state's milk production chain, supporting 22,200 producers. This move aims to mitigate the adverse effects of dairy imports, especially from Mercosur countries, by withdrawing tax incentives for imported milk products. The program encompasses the Pronampe Leite SC and Financia Leite SC, offering financial aid and interest subsidies to producers, alongside tax benefits for the dairy sector, to boost competitiveness against imports. As the 4th largest milk producer in Brazil, Santa Catarina produced 3.3 billion liters of milk in 2023, representing 9.3% of the national output, with this initiative poised to further strengthen its position in the dairy industry.
