Scotland's Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Mairi Gougeon, has provided an update to the Scottish Parliament's Rural Affairs and Islands Committee on the status of the country's salmon-farming industry. The update marks the end of the committee's inquiry into the sector's sustainability progress since a 2019 report that called for immediate action on fish health and environmental issues. Gougeon highlighted the industry's will to be sustainable and its contribution to Scotland's economy and environment. She noted significant achievements in addressing the 2019 report's concerns, despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 and Brexit. The focus now is on areas such as environmental and biodiversity protection, community benefits, business growth, and animal health and welfare.
