Farmers in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, have found success in cultivating seaweed in both saline and semi-saline water, leading to the production of products used in food, medicine, cosmetics, fertilizers, biofuels, and environmental protection. The project, funded by the Agricultural Research Foundation and overseen by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), has involved 400 agricultural families and is worth Tk4 crore. The project has also empowered women by providing them with a source of income. Since 2010, BARI has researched and cultivated seaweed in the coastal areas of Cox's Bazar, and has found that the seaweed has high nutritional value and is in high demand for use in various industries.
