Second R&D obligation transport due to African swine fever in Croatia

Due to an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Croatia on 5 pig farms, as of June 29, 2023, means of transport for cloven-hoofed animals (pigs, cattle, sheep, goats or deer) returning or arriving (empty or loaded) from Croatia must immediately upon entry undergo a second cleaning and disinfection (R&D) in the Netherlands at a recognized cleaning and disinfection site, slaughterhouse or collection centre. The establishment of a second R&D is regulated in the Veterinary Measures for Specific Animal Diseases or Zoonoses Regulations, Article 6.3. The NVWA, on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), has designated Croatia as an EU risk country in accordance with this article.
