The Director of Plant Health at Senasa, Orlando Dolores, has confirmed that the Fusarium Race 4 (Foc R4T) outbreak is limited to the Valle del China in Piura, Peru, and there is currently no regrowth in other areas of the country. Strict controls and quarantine checkpoints are in place to prevent the spread of the pest, including disinfecting vehicles and implementing biosafety measures on plantain farms. The budget allocated for these measures is over 5 million soles per year, with 130 personnel working in Piura to keep the pest under control.
