The National Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor) led the 1st Ordinary Meeting 2025 of the National Tara Council (Conatara), in which the results of the Tara Ñan Plan were presented, as well as the next steps to be taken. As it is known, the tara (Tara spinosa) is one of the most important non-timber forest resources in Peru, used to generate economic dividends. Our country is the world's largest exporter of tara, followed by Ecuador. Its derivative products are used in the tannery and food industries. In 2022 alone, Peruvian exports exceeded $70 million FOB, with destinations such as China, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina. The productive activity around tara is a source of income and employment, driving a sustainable, solid, and diversified bioeconomy, in harmony with the preservation of forest resources.
