On February 1, the Shandong Provincial Market Supervision Bureau announced an investigation into the sale of infected milk dates in China, originating from Tianjin and contaminated with a positive result for the new coronavirus from a batch of imported whey powder from Ukraine. Despite the positive finding, experts from the Shandong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention suggest that the risk of infection from these milk dates is extremely low, likely due to the presence of nucleic acid fragments or dead viruses rather than live viruses. The investigation is ongoing, with the involved milk dates having been tested across several provinces and counties in Shandong.
