Since 2000, the Russian Federation has seen a 46% increase in the number of sheep across all types of farms, indicating a robust growth in the sheep farming sub-sector. This expansion is supported by significant investments aimed at modernizing farms, enhancing product quality, and ensuring safety. As of March, the country's production of sheep and goats for slaughter reached 2,000 tons, with a livestock count of 3.1 million. Although lamb exports are minimal and do not impact domestic prices, lamb is a staple meat in many Russian regions. The cost of lamb in these areas is lower than the national average, making it a important part of the local diet, despite its limited consumption in most regions.
