A photograph of a ship loaded with Argentine sunflowers docked at a Bulgarian seaport has today sparked outrage among grain producers. Even before the trade agreement with Mercosur came into force and before the temporary trade agreement, which is expected to be signed at the end of March, was implemented, traders are sending sunflowers from the South American country to the EU, including Bulgaria. The tariff for this commodity is around 10% before the agreement is applied. There is no blocking quota for sunflower seeds. If the ship has docked in Bulgaria, it means there is a customer for it. At the same time, grain producers say their warehouses are full of unsold sunflowers - about 600,000 tons. The President of the National Association of Grain Producers and the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber, Iliya Prodanov, informed Sinoir that according to official data, 6 ships with a total of 200,000 tons of Argentine sunflowers will be unloaded in Bulgaria.
