UK: Shortage of new quality cereals in AHDB’s 2021/22 Lists

The AHDB Recommended List of cereal and oilseed varieties for 2021/22, launched this week, sees 21 new varieties added to the Lists and 25 removed. Winter Wheat There are no new nabim Group 1 or 2 varieties this year, but five Group 3 biscuit winter wheats are added along with three Group 4 types. Four of the Group 3 biscuit wheats come from the Limagrain UK stable – LG Prince (103% treated yield, good disease resistance, but a lower specific weight of 74.8 kg/hl); LG Illuminate (102% yield, higher specific weight of 76.6 kg/hl, good disease and earlier maturity for northern growers); LG Quasar (slightly behind LG Illuminate on quality); and LG Astronomer( behind on yield, especially in the North, but very good disease and specific weight of 77.8 kg/hl).
