The 2023 Shrimp Industry Development Conference by Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reviewed a successful 2022 for the shrimp industry, which saw over 737,000 hectares of brackish water shrimp farming and an estimated output of 745,000 tons. The industry experienced a significant growth in export value, reaching between 4.1 and 4.2 billion USD, with a plan to expand shrimp farming areas and exports in 2023. However, the industry faces challenges such as high production costs and issues with seed production information sharing. To address these challenges, the Deputy Minister suggested measures to improve product quality, environmental monitoring, and compliance with laws and regulations, aiming to reduce intermediaries, lower production costs, and strengthen trade promotion for both domestic consumption and international markets.
